Charles Anderson
Charlie teaches acoustic, bass and electric.
I grew up in the Fargo, North Dakota region and moved to Sioux Falls in 1998. My mother plays piano for her local church and her mother was a music teacher. I started taking private piano lessons in the 2nd grade and switched to guitar lessons the summer of my 6th grade year. I continued with private lessons until I graduated from high school. I started playing guitar in our local church praise band. I then moved to Chillicothe, Ohio where I studied studio recording at the Recording Workshop. Right after that I moved to Nashville, Tennessee and did and internship at Trinity Music City. There I learned audio and video production and also worked part-time doing live sound for concerts. I currently give private piano and guitar (acoustic, electric and bass) lessons from home. I do some audio production work from my home studio, in addition to being a DJ during the weekends. I also play guitar and bass in a local band called "The Unnotables." Music is such a big part of my life and I enjoy teaching others what I have learned through the years.

My mother is a music teacher at our local high school and has taught piano and music lessons for 28 years! As for me, I have played piano for 23 years. Back in my hometown I taught private piano lessons for 8 years and I would often play for church and for weddings. Currently, I am finishing my B.S. degree in Education while being an EA at Oscar Howe Elementary. On the weekends I work at Good Sam's where I play for the elderly and bring the joy of music in their lives. I feel music knows no bounds and I can connect with people of all ages and abilities!

Kendra Doerr
I am from Hills, MN and have played piano for 14+ years! I first fell in love with music when I attended my older brother's piano recital in first grade. The piano, while my favorite, is not the only instrument I have pursued in my passion for music. In the 5th grade, I began to play the flute. This instrument increased my desire to continue my musical pursuits. Upon entering college at the University of Sioux Falls, I declared an Instrumental Music Education major. USF has been a wonderful source of encouragement and training in my music! While at college, the opportunity to again expand my musical experience presented itself. During my sophomore year, I began taking organ lessons and have since declared it as one of my major instruments. I am currently halfway through the education program at USF and cannot wait to get my own instrumental program! The last two years I have taught piano lessons and flute lessons in Minnesota. I am very excited to expand to the Sioux Falls area in my teaching and be able to further share my passion for music!

Joshua Guenther
Hello, I'm Joshua Guenther. I am originally from Sioux Falls and I'm so happy to be teaching voice lessons through Community Education! I recently graduated from the University of South Dakota with a Bachelor of Musical Arts degree where I specialized in voice. My voice background started at age 9 when I joined the Singing Boys of Sioux Falls and toured with them for four years. At USD, I was a Tenor II in the music department's top ensemble, the USD Chamber Singers. The Chamber Singers are an a capella choral ensemble led by Dr. David Holdhusen. This ensemble specializes in choral music ranging from the Renaissance to the 21st century and I sang and toured with this group for three years! One of them was my first European tour. I also took private singing lessons from Dr. Tracelyn Gesteland for three years in order to develop my voice and even sang in an opera chorus for her production of Aaron Copland's "The Tender Land." During my last two years of college, I was a bass choral scholar for St. Joseph Cathedral under Dr. Jared Ostermann. I'm very much looking forward to singing with my new students and seeing their growth as musicians!

Pamela Harris
I am a retired pharmacist with many hobbies that I now have time to do. I split my time between the farm I grew up on east of Harrisburg and a ranch east of Pierre on the Missouri River. I have always enjoyed crafting and giving unique homemade gifts to family and friends. I started very young by working alongside my Grandmothers and learning from them. Over the years I learned to sew, can, garden, refinish furniture, cook, bake, decorate cakes, paint, wallpaper, interior decorating, and make holiday décor including pillows, wreaths, ornaments, tree decorating, and wood crafts. To this day I still do these things, and recently have added raising heritage chickens, turkeys, guineas, and ducks on my farm. I also enjoy watching Harrisburg Tiger sports. I am interested in teaching a SFSD Community Class because I love to see others mastering and producing something they can be proud of and for others who like me, love to make pretty and fun things. I also believe I have a responsibility to younger generations to mentor and guide them as they find their own hobby or crafting passion.

While there, Robin took several seminars including a table building class and wood carving. Teaching classes feels like a great way to share.
Joseph Herreman
Alstair Hird My name is Al, and I am from England, and along with my wife and two daughters, came over here in August 2008 to raise young dairy stock for my brother-in-law’s 750 cow dairy in Egan SD. I have always had a passion for making things from wood, (my wife will confirm this, as the house is full of stuff!!) and was introduced to wood turning when a young boy at school, but did not actually take up the hobby seriously until just before we moved over here. I belonged to a Woodturning club in England, and I made sure that there was one over here before I even moved! Siouxland Woodturners are an enthusiastic bunch of people, who will help anyone to learn and improve their woodturning skills. We hope that you will come along and enjoy learning something new!

I began my career as a Paramedic in Pennsylvania. I managed an ambulance service about an hour south of Pittsburgh. I moved to Sioux Falls SD to raise a family in 1992. I continued to volunteer as a Paramedic as I raised my children. I now work full time at the Avera Heart Hospital and as a BLS/ACLS Instructor with Heartstarters. I teach many life support courses for Community Ed and have combined several classes for the Super-Sitter program. Students from the Supersitter class don't just learn to watch children, they learn to play, feed and care for children. They learn how to identify risks and prevent injury and illness and know what to do in an emergency! I enjoy teaching people of all ages to be prepared to prevent injury and illness and what they can do should if they are on the scene of a victim needing help.

JJ (Jessica) Nelson
Jessica "JJ" Nelson was born and raised in and around Sioux Falls, SD. She has always been artistic by nature. Don't worry, she is not the brooding kind of artistic. No one needs lose an ear lobe. JJ’s mind lives instead in a much more laid back and fun filled search for the creativity that lives within all of us.

JJ studied graphic communications at Southeast Tech and has an entrepreneurial spirit. Over the last 25 years she has owned and operated three businesses. These were all wonderful adventures, but lacked the one-on-one personal experience she craved. She was still looking for a way to connect, inspire, and empower.

In 2014 she moved back to SD and attended a painting party/class in Sioux Falls. By the end of the evening she knew that this was the answer she was looking for and After 5 Art Party was born. Her favorite parts of instructing painting parties are seeing the "Ah, ha!" moments on her attendees faces and hearing laughter sweep the room. Their motto is: "Yes you can! We’ll show you how!”

I am a married mother of three grown children and grandmother of three darling girls. I've been playing mahjong for 17 years. I have been in Sioux Falls for 22 years, but my love of games began as a farm girl in Hecla, SD, in the northeast corner of the state. My father's theory was if we were home playing games we wouldn't be running around getting into trouble! His plan didn't always work, but I am thankful for my family and my family of friends that I have met playing mah jongg!
Heidi Schrag
I was born and raised in southeastern South Dakota (Freeman), and ended up in Sioux Falls to attend Augustana College, which is where I've been ever since. Several years ago, I drove by Dakota Stained Glass and saw a sign advertising beginning stained glass classes. I signed up and fell in love with the process of copper foiled stained glass. I have taken several different classes in stained glass technique, but always seem to come back to the copper foil method. After giving friends and family a lot of stained glass sun catchers and ornaments as gifts, I've begun selling my pieces at local craft fairs and shows throughout South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa and Nebraska. My creations tend to be funky, unique and whimsical, definitely all one of kinds!
Linda Schwab
My love of arts and crafts dates back to kindergarten. I had the same wonderful and talented art teacher k-12. Throughout those years Mrs "J" taught me painting, calligraphy, art history, wood burning, sculpture, muraling, matting, etching, charcoal drawing, paper quilling, etc... In under-graduate school, I earned a minor in the visual arts. I continue to paint, cartoon, make greeting cards, and collect Artist's Biography books. My long life interest in arts and crafts enables me to teach and enlighten the people around me to lead a balanced and happy life. Turn this 500 year old technique into a relaxing and rewarding hobby. Learn the basics of Quilling shapes and scrolls, and then create 4 beautiful greeting cards. You'll be be amazed at how easy and fun it is to learn. Don't be surprised if this filigree paper art becomes addicting only after your first encounter with it! Besides your greeting cards, and additional slotted quilling needle, you will take home a packet of information containing Quilling products, designs, and resources.

Natalie Sorenson
I'm Natalie Sorenson. I've been drawn to creative play forever. I caught the jewelry bug in my mother's cellar studio and later took metallurgy in OH, where I received my degree in fashion design. The beauty of handmade jewelry comes from an artist's own signature hammer blows, torch strokes, and aesthetic, and going elemental with precious metals and soldering is the cathartic step in making so much possible. JoeBobLeigh is my label for handmade jewelry, where it has sold from Sticks & Steel to Mall of America. Some of my artistic haunts are Painted Prairie, 1st Lutheran Church, St. Mark's Church, Soul Movement Studio, the Butterfly House and Knitter's Magazine. I've taught sewing, tie-dye, painting, baton, knitting, as well as jewelry. JOE'S Garage is where I have been teaching jewelry classes to like-minded earthy artsy sorts since 2011. I have lived in Sioux Falls since 1990 with my husband, where we raised our 3 daughters.

Sioux Falls Sword Academy

My name is Jesse Adams and I am originally from the Bemidji area in Northern Minnesota, and moved to Sioux Falls six years ago. Up north I ran a Dojang (training gym) for nearly ten years before moving to the Sioux Falls area to support my wife's career. I feel very fortunate to be able to continue offering Kumdo/Kendo classes to the great people in our region! My training began nearly sixteen years ago, during which I have enjoyed the opportunity of traveling overseas on a number of occasions. I believe strongly in both the physical and emotional benefits of martial arts practice! The study of the sword specifically is an excellent method of pursuing a deeper understanding of ourselves while enjoying being active. I look forward to seeing you in class!

Dawn Szymik
Hello, my name is Dawn Szymik. I have been teaching Zumba since 2009. Zumba is an exhilarating, effective, easy-to-follow, Latin-inspired, calorie-burning dance fitness-party!! Since I was introduced to Zumba I knew this was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I have always had a passion for dance and fitness. I used to be 260 pounds, and in the journey of losing weight I knew it was my mission to help inspire others! Zumba has changed my life because it has given me back happiness, a purpose, and a mission to help others through what ever journey they are on! I stage my classes in a club style environment to create a comfortable, non-intimidating, party like atmosphere. If you have never taken a Zumba class, please come try it with me! We love to laugh, shake, sweat, dance, and most importantly have FUN!!!!
Rita Taylor I feel like my life has been a journey of discovering the many tools available for healing. Since I was a little girl, my dreams and life choices have centered around being able to help others. After a short career as a pharmacist, I moved on to a more holistic approach with Reiki and Massage Therapy. After returning from Thailand, where I learned their traditional massage, I met my husband Randy who runs R & R Transformational Healing with me. Since then I have added crystal healing, energetic jewelry design, and sound therapy with crystal singing bowls and tuning forks to my "tool box". My passion is to continue learning and assisting others in their own journeys.
