Duane Bajema

I have been a professor of agriculture at Dordt College for 41 years, and part of my background is that I am a Master Beekeeper who has kept bees for 40+ years. I have given a number of classes to help people get started in beekeeping, have sponsored a field day at Dordt College that drew people from the 4-state area, helped get a local club established where it is common to have 50 - 70 people in attendance at their monthly meetings, many of whom took the beginning beekeeping classes, and I have used various grants to support the educational activity. My objective in the classes is to provide a realistic and practical foundation for people to begin beekeeping. I provide options for the participants since there are varying reasons why people want to keep bees. I also provide information of how to obtain additional technical support after they once get started with bees. I try to have fun while being helpful, and I hope the participants will develop an enthusiasm and excitement that will be needed for their success.

Graduating Summa Cum Laude in 2006, Chef Stacy knew the next step was to bring her talents back to where her heart was. The eclectic food scene in Sioux Falls offered a variety of ways to use her skills as a barista, pastry chef, and baker. Her passion goes beyond the walls of any one building or kitchen. Her goal is to bring menus to life that are special to her personal clients in their own kitchens. Catering private events, teaching classes or offering one-on-one lessons, Chef Stacy can make a menu more than just what you eat, but a memory to savor.

Drone technology has been integrated into two classes which exposes students to STEM education through programming and flight. Minidrones can be checked out by the building staff at Roosevelt for a variety tasks.

Mr. Hofflander is a husband and a proud father with four daughters at home who endure his love of drone activity. With drone technology, the Hofflander family photo just got more interesting.

I continued to volunteer as a Paramedic as I raised my children. I now work full time at the Avera Heart Hospital and as a BLS/ACLS Instructor with Heartstarters. I teach many life support courses for Community Ed and have combined several classes for the Super-Sitter program. Students from the Supersitter class don't just learn to watch children, they learn to play, feed and care for children. They learn how to identify risks and prevent injury and illness and know what to do in an emergency! I enjoy teaching people of all ages to be prepared to prevent injury and illness and what they can do should if they are on the scene of a victim needing help.

Jessica Nelson
Jessica "JJ" Nelson was born and raised in and around Sioux Falls, SD. She has always been artistic by nature. Don't worry, she is not the brooding kind of artistic. No one needs lose an ear lobe. JJ’s mind lives instead in a much more laid back and fun filled search for the creativity that lives within all of us.

JJ studied graphic communications at Southeast Tech and has an entrepreneurial spirit. Over the last 25 years she has owned and operated three businesses. These were all wonderful adventures, but lacked the one-on-one personal experience she craved. She was still looking for a way to connect, inspire, and empower.

In 2014 she moved back to SD and attended a painting party/class in Sioux Falls. By the end of the evening she knew that this was the answer she was looking for and After 5 Art Party was born. Her favorite parts of instructing painting parties are seeing the "Ah, ha!" moments on her attendees faces and hearing laughter sweep the room. Their motto is: "Yes you can! We’ll show you how!”

I have been in Sioux Falls for 22 years, but my love of games began as a farm girl in Hecla, SD, in the northeast corner of the state. My father's theory was if we were home playing games we wouldn't be running around getting into trouble! His plan didn't always work, but I am thankful for my family and my family of friends that I have met playing mah jongg!

I have taken several different classes in stained glass technique, but always seem to come back to the copper foil method. After giving friends and family a lot of stained glass sun catchers and ornaments as gifts, I've begun selling my pieces at local craft fairs and shows throughout South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa and Nebraska. My creations tend to be funky, unique and whimsical, definitely all one of kinds!

Natalie Sorenson
I'm Natalie Sorenson. I've been drawn to creative play forever. I caught the jewelry bug in my mother's cellar studio and later took metallurgy in OH, where I received my degree in fashion design. The beauty of handmade jewelry comes from an artist's own signature hammer blows, torch strokes, and aesthetic, and going elemental with precious metals and soldering is the cathartic step in making so much possible. JoeBobLeigh is my label for handmade jewelry, where it has sold from Sticks & Steel to Mall of America. Some of my artistic haunts are Painted Prairie, 1st Lutheran Church, St. Mark's Church, Soul Movement Studio, the Butterfly House and Knitter's Magazine. I've taught sewing, tie-dye, painting, baton, knitting, as well as jewelry. JOE'S Garage is where I have been teaching jewelry classes to like-minded earthy artsy sorts since 2011. Up north I ran a Dojang (training gym) for nearly ten years before moving to the Sioux Falls area to support my wife's career. I feel very fortunate to be able to continue offering Kumdo/Kendo classes to the great people in our region! My training began nearly sixteen years ago, during which I have enjoyed the opportunity of traveling overseas on a number of occasions. I believe strongly in both the physical and emotional benefits of martial arts practice! The study of the sword specifically is an excellent method of pursuing a deeper understanding of ourselves while enjoying being active. I look forward to seeing you in class!

Rita Taylor

I feel like my life has been a journey of discovering the many tools available for healing. Since I was a little girl, my dreams and life choices have centered around being able to help others. After a short career as a pharmacist, I moved on to a more holistic approach with Reiki and Massage Therapy. After returning from Thailand, where I learned their traditional massage, I met my husband Randy who runs R & R Transformational Healing with me. Since then I have added crystal healing, energetic jewelry design, and sound therapy with crystal singing bowls and tuning forks to my "tool box". My passion is to continue learning and assisting others in their own journeys.

Chelsea Timm
James Trett
Peng Vang

Spending six months in Chicago, IL, I slowly rose up to the top as a competitive B-Boy with my crew, Dark Beast. I spent the entire spring and summer of 2016 planning, hosting, and putting together community events for the Twin Cities during my return to Minnesota before moving to Chicago to further pursue my career as a dancer, which then transformed me into a dance instructor for the youth! I wish to pass down all of the resources, knowledge, and mentoring that I received as a young adult on to the future generation: your children; the children that hold the future in their hands. Finding my reason, aspirations, and determination through teaching dance, I wish to continue down this path as a young artist, spreading the positive energy and love that comes with and from dancing!

Jamie Hyneman from Mythbusters once said, "Duct Tape isn't perfect for anything, but is adequate for everything." I can't think of a better metaphor for myself. I'm duct tape. Capable in a jack mess of trades--from manly trades such as home construction and grilling to poindexter pursuits such as philosophy and Greek--but haven't mastered any so as to become a professional. Author of three published novels--Caveat Ties, Soul Shocked, and Zaide: Mozart's Lost Opera--I live in Tea, SD and have three boys, rowdy and strong willed. My great occupational passion is writing. As a youth, I'd spend hours in my room typing stories. Stories of all kinds. Stories that were never finished. Then, I grew up. Hints flowed my way, that maybe, I ought to choose a 'realistic' career path. So I did what any confused teen would do. I joined the army. Four Army and another four college years later, I learned I'm too scatterbrained, for a 'realistic' career path. I began writing again. My only constant pursuit of occupational joy. (I love doing and learning new things, I just have a hard time sticking with them.) And, I actually started finishing works.
