Learn about the SWEET hobby of beekeeping in two information packed Saturday session. bee keeping expert, animal nutritionist and developer of protein supplement for honey bees, Dr.Dale Hill will cover history of beekeeping, castes and social structure of bee colonies, apiary location and regulations, feeding and care of bees, honey harvest, supplies, start-up, and more. Start providing a safe haven and local tricks and tips for keeping bees in SD. One of the instructor’s favorite bee basics bibles, “First Lessons in Beekeeping” book and other customized handouts are included. Ages 16 and up (youth welcome with paid family registration and participating adult).

Dale Hill

Dale Hill's PhD is in Animal Nutrition. He wrote the updated chapter on honeybee nutrition in "The Hive and the Honey Bee" which is considered the Bible of beekeeping. Dale has developed one of the top selling protein supplements for honeybees, and also taught the nutrition section of the Master Beekeepers Course through the University of Montana - thus being able to go through the entire Master Beekeeper course several times. He served as past as President of Mississippi Valley Beekeepers Assn in Quincy, Illinois and of Illinois State Beekeepers Association, had an apiary in Illinois, and has kept bees for 15 years.
